Our fruit tree varieties are ordered in bare root from Bailey Nursery, a wholesale grower based in Newport, MN.
We do not take preorders for FRUIT trees
WHAT DOES “BARE ROOT” MEAN?
Rather than the trees being delivered to us already potted in unknown soil, planted in plastic pots we don't want, they are shipped to us in bundles with their roots exposed.
We pot them up in fiber pots using soil and amendments approved for organic use.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF DOING IT THIS WAY?
Bare root trees do not get foliar treatments of neonicotinoids. Because we plant them ourselves, the soil they’re potted in also remains pesticide-free.
Bare root trees potted at our shop tend to develop healthy, unrestricted root systems. We can help avoid girdling roots and other structural problems.

APPLES
Apples need 2 varieties to cross pollinate but the abundance of crabapples and apples in the city will do the job. All are SM-7, which means semi-dwarf (15-20’) .
CHERRIES
Tart Cherries: All varieties sold at Mother Earth Gardens are self fruitful; you only need 1 plant.
Sweet Cherries: Need 2 different plants - ‘Bing’ and ‘Rainier’ are pollinators.
PEACHes
‘Contender’ Peach is self fruitful; you only need 1 plant.
PEARS
Need 2 varieties to produce fruit. Our 2 varieties will cross pollinate since they are both early blooming pears.
PLUMS
‘Mount Royal’ Plum is self fruitful; you only need 1 plant.
