Greetings Autumn Gardeners!
First of all - SALE!! MAJOR BIG END OF YEAR
HARVEST MOON SALE THIS WEEKEND. Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th.
We all look forward to this one. Everything in the store starts at 30% off. At the checkout counter, you get to gamble! Spin the harvest moon for up to an additional 20% off. (Consignment and local artists are not included in any sales as we don't own those items. Nor are bulbs, sorry it's still a capitalist operation.)
It's good fun and we really need to clear out this lot for the pumpkins, which arrive next week.
Moving on to other things, we have been comparing fall gardening styles at the store. Where do you land? Are you happily putting your harvest up, cleaning up and covering your beds, planting bulbs and putting in last minute perennials? Or maybe you are on the other end of the spectrum - sick to death of the overgrown plants, weeds, and unharvested veggies, just waiting for the first frost to kill off your windowbox? (Or maybe it died off last night; it was pretty chilly.)
If you are still up for it, we have big lovely cold tolerant annuals, lots of mums in full color, and a wide variety of bulbs both in bulk and bagged "blends". We've added peonies and bearded irises to our fall bulb choices: both perennialize easily and should be planted in October. Our pansies deserve their own sentence, as they are gorgeous, large and may just pop their heads back up in early spring. If you'd rather move it all indoors, we've got fresh, local and sustainably grown herbs for indoor herb pots. Winter soup with fresh herbs?
We are often asked if it's too late to plant perennials. The answer is that autumn is a great time to plant perennials! Deciduous trees and shrubs can be planted until the ground freezes. If you get a great evergreen during the sale, it's best to get those in the ground the first couple of weeks in October, and water everything you plant well, particularly trees and shrubs.
To round up, after the big sale weekend, we are going fully into the fall and winter swing. That means the whole store will turn over to pumpkins, fall garden decor, tools and beautiful gifts. We worked hard this summer to source more hand made, USA made, sustainably made products. We are still featuring great local gear: Wood from the Hood frames and cutting boards, locally printed hats and scarves, hand made recycled mittens and kids sweaters, bags, jewelry, pots, etc.
Come on by.
