HELLO ALL

Hot Child in the City! Don't forget to water, deeply. Containers might need to be checked twice daily this week with such hot sun.

The business of the day includes:

Seminars, which are listed here.

Mums and bulbs: Our sustainably grown and Minnesota hardy mums are budded but not in full color yet.  We expect them soon.

Spring flowering bulbs have shipped and will arrive any day. We've added peonies and bare root bearded irises to our choices this year. Many of us were not aware that we could plant peonies in the fall, but it turns out we can, and how great is that? The two varieties we picked are a pink, Sarah Bernhardt, and a red, Karl Rosenfield, will be in the store mid September, slightly later than our other bulbs. The irises are really beautiful, the varieties are Cloud Ballet, Fall Spotlight and Paprika Fono's.

RAINBOW SALE STARTS AUGUST 21ST. Whereby you get 25% off a different color every week, starting with RED. Colors change weekly, and if you can convince us that the plant, pot, tool or anything else is the color of the week, it's yours for a quarter off. We will go through the spectrum until Oct.4th, when the sale culminates in the Harvest Moon Spin O Rama. Sorry, no sales on consignment, since we don't own the work.

AUGUST 29th and 30th: Saturday and Sunday, Mother Earth is participating in the Longfellow Art Crawl. We will be a location for several of the artists we feature at the store and a few others we'd like to. Look for LOLA flyers around town and around the store or visit the Lola site. Many other studios and houses in Longfellow will be open - great time to check out the art in our community!

Our last staff pick was a hit, so here's the next one: Tree form Pee Gee Hydrangea, H paniculata ‘Grandiflora’. The most cold-hearty of all hydrangeas, the Pee Gee hydrangea is a type of paniculata hydrangea. It is a beautiful small tree, growing to an 8 foot height, and spreading 8 to 10 feet wide. It is a prolific bloomer - flowers start out white; as they age they turn pink and then rust colored in the fall. Sounds pretty good if you are looking for a small flowering tree with multi-season interest.

ALL SEMINAR CLASSES WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AT 7PM, AND ARE FREE OF CHARGE. CLASSES TAKE PLACE AT THE STORE:  3738 42ND AVE S MINNEAPOLIS, MN 55406.

See you there.
