Welcome to May!
Sounds like it will be a lovely weekend ahead - great for planting all kinds of things.
A quick rundown:
Plenty of veggies, herbs, fruits, annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs have arrived. For planting at this point, we are saying to go for it on all the trees, shrubs, perennials, grass seed and most annuals. We are pulling in basil, cilantro, coleus and begonia at night. We've gone ahead and planted our outdoor urns (try to guess which two are planted with all edibles), and lots of perennials on the lot are in bloom and ready to go in.
TOMATOES. They are really coming, they are.
We won't get them until next week. Be kind to them and wait until the ground is really nice and warm at the end of May/beginning of June. We will have the usual outrageous selection of heirlooms and old fave hybrids. More than 40 varieties will show up during tomato high season.
Soils are fully stocked, we have Cowsmo in bulk again this year. This excellent product is a blend of bedding compost and composted cow manure. Bring your own container or buy a bag from us for a quarter. We have plenty of corn gluten, for those who have inquired. Check links for info on how corn gluten works and how to apply.
Some cool local products: We have two different local sources for beautiful reclaimed wood trellises, different look, both gorgeous. Another Minneapolitan craftsperson is back this year with local metal obelisks. For local gifts, Rectangle Designs has joined the collection with lovely botanical prints on lightweight scarves, baby hats and zip clutches. All items are hand screenprinted using waterbased inks and sewn locally. The products are created using remnant fabrics, vintage and reclaimed notions and PVC/phthalate-free inks to minimize impact on the environment. We continue to feature several other strong artists with cards, jewelry, mosaic and garden art.
Mother's Day is a mere week away, so we're planting those ideas now...
